PICU
is an independent organization dedicated to educating transfer students
and college transfer center coordinators
about the numerous benefits available at private colleges and universities.
By presenting diverse educational sessions to community college counselors,
as well as the traditional college fair format for the students, PICU
stresses the importance of taking a more thorough look at private schools.
PICU is currently comprised of 31
Illinois colleges and universities that are united by a student-centered
approach at every phase of the transfer process. By insuring
a smooth transition from the community college to the receiving institution,
PICU schools allow students to fully concentrate on successfully completing
their bachelor’s degree program with the assurance that they will
be assisted every step of the way.
THE BENEFITS
OF ATTENDING A PRIVATE COLLEGE OR UNIVERSITY...
| •
Private colleges and universities have much smaller enrollments. |
››
don't dismiss applying to a private school simply because the tuition
is higher than that of a state-funded institution. |
| •
Help from
students, alumni, faculty and tutors are more readily available |
| •
Classes
are taught by professors rather than by teaching assistants. |
| •
Private schools offer scholarships and financial aid. An average
of 70 percent of all students enrolled in private colleges
and universities received some type of scholarship or
financial aid to help towards the cost of tuition.
At some private colleges/universities, merit-based awards
pay for over half of a student’s tuition. |
| •
Generally, private schools
offer a variety of academic, social, political, religious,
and ethnic clubs and organizations |
|
•
Graduation rates of private
colleges and universities rank higher than publics. |
