IAI GECC Course Numbering System:
IAI has its own individual course numbering sequence for the Illinois Transferable
General Education Core Curriculum (IAI GECC)
Here is an example of an IAI GECC course - H2 903N Non-Western Civilizations.
The first letter indicates the discipline field the course exists within.
The H, in the above example, stands for the discipline field of Humanities.
The disciplines and their corresponding letters are listed below:
IAI C (Communications)
IAI F (Fine Arts)
IAI H (Humanities)
IAI HF (Interdisciplinary Humanities/Fine Arts)
IAI HS (Interdisciplinary humanities/Fine Arts and Social/Behavioral
IAI L (Life Sciences)
IAI M (Mathematics)
IAI P (Physical Sciences)
IAI S (Social/Behavioral Sciences)
The first number after the letter (i.e., the 2 in H2) indicates the sub-area
of the discipline field. The H2 , in this example, is the history sub-area
of Humanities. The numbers identify different sub-areas depending upon the
discipline field they exist within.
The 903, in this example, is part of the unique numbering system
adopted for the IAI process.
The N is for courses designed specifically to examine aspects of
human diversity from a non-U.S./non-European perspective.
Other letters that are used at the end of course numbers, include:
D - Courses designed specifically to examine aspects of human diversity
within the United States.
L - Designates laboratory courses.
R - Designates research paper courses.
IAI Majors Course Numbering System:
IAI has its own individual course numbering sequence for the Illinois Baccalaureate
Majors' Recommendations (IAI Majors).
Here is an example of an IAI Majors course - ART 904: Drawing I.
In IAI Majors there are only 2 parts of the course numbering system: The abbreviation
(i.e., ART) and the 904 which is a part of the unique numbering system
adopted for the IAI process.The abbreviation indicates the field the course
exists within. The fields and their corresponding abbreviations are listed below:

ART - Art/Art Education
BIO - Biological Sciences
BUS - Business
CHE - Chemistry

CS - Computer Science
