How do I use this web site?

iTransfer helps you find how transferable courses might be used to satisfy subject matter requirements for specific majors or general education requirements of the institution you want to transfer to.

You can view the courses which fulfill the General Education core package at your original school. All colleges and universities, participating in the IAI agree to accept a “package” of IAI general education courses in lieu of their own comparable lower-division general education requirements. Keep in mind, the IAI General Education transfers as a package. Course-to-course transfer is not guaranteed. For course-to-course transfer guidance, u.select is here to help.

iTransfer website also provides information about majors recommendations by various schools. To Explore Majors, choose a specific major that interests you on iTransfer site and view the recommendations or explore the u.select site to see course-to-course articulations between participating schools.

Why isn’t the data for the college or university I need one of my choices?

There are several possibilities. Here are just a few:

  • The institution you are looking for does not participate in IAI or u.select agreements.Even though IAI is a state-wide program, some schools choose not to participate in it. Many universities concentrate on their primary feeder colleges and their most popular majors. For information about transferring to campuses or programs that are not listed in iTransfer, contact an admissions or departmental advisor at the university campus you plan to attend.
  • You may be looking for an out-of-state college or university. iTransfer provides information regarding public institutions in Illinois. There is no information concerning out-of-state universities or colleges in iTransfer.

I’m transferring from another state. Where’s the information I need?

iTransfer is funded by State of Illinois and is intended to facilitate transfer from a Illinois college to another Illinois campus. There is no information regarding transfer from or to out-of-state colleges or universities in iTransfer.

For out-of-state transfer, contact an admissions advisor at the campus you plan to attend. For international transfer, contact the international student center at the campus you plan to attend. All of the university campuses have special offices for international students.

When will the articulation for next year be available?

Articulation in iTransfer is valid for the academic year(s) indicated at the beginning of the agreement. Each university campus updates and publishes its articulation on a schedule based on campus policies and priorities. Since each campus determines its own schedule, we cannot provide information about when new data will be published.

If the articulation information you are looking for is not available in iTransfer, check directly with the university you are interested in attending regarding your courses to be sure they will articulate.

What’s the difference between a transferable course and an articulated course?

There is an important difference between a transferable course and an articulated course but the terms are sometimes used as if they are interchangeable:

Transferable courses

  • A transferable course is a course taken at one college or university that can be used for unit credit at another institution. This does not indicate how the course can be used to fulfill a subject matter requirement at a university campus.
  • A course that is transferable (or Baccalaureate level) is accepted for unit credit at any participating Illinois campus. Transferability of course is determined by the college that is accepting the course.
  • u.select provides you with the course-to-course transferability.

Articulated Courses

  • According to the statewide Illinois Articulation Agreement, participating schools accept Gen-Ed core courses as package. These courses voted and decided by various faculty panels are called "articulated courses"
  • An articulated course is a course taken at one college or university that can be used to satisfy subject matter requirements (general education) at another institution. All articulated courses are transfered as a package and do not garantee course-to-course transferability.
  • The IAI Gen Ed (GECC) worksheet provides the articulated course list for students who attended Multiple Schools
  • The IAI Gen Ed (GECC) worksheetprovides the articulated course list for students who attended Single School

Can you tell me exactly what courses I should take?

There are many variables in each student’s academic plan. iTransfer is not affiliated with any one college or university and cannot provide academic advising. Your academic counselor or advisor at your community college or an admissions or departmental advisor at the university you plan to attend is best prepared to answer your specific questions.
